Red Canary Magazine is an award-winning independent publication launched in collaboration with acclaimed journalist and writer Joe Donnelly committed to difference-making journalism focused on the environment and social justice. Though we cover urgent issues, we try to approach our mission with humor and humility. (Please refer to our Community Guidelines as well.)
Our mission is to produce difference-making work, focused on urgent environmental and social issues, that provokes discussion, inspires reflection and speaks to the times with compelling storytelling that is timeless.
We envision a world where the interconnectedness of life is understood and honored and where the health and happiness of each life ensures the health and happiness of all life. We are healers, activists, filmmakers, photographers, writers and indigenous futurists all living and working at the intersection of creativity and social change. Join us.
Red Canary offers one paid internship position annually, 12 weeks long, part-time and traditionally starting in June. We provide a monthly stipend, plus remote privileges. We seek interns who have interest in the following areas: Journalism, Social Media Marketing, IT, UI/UX Design, CRM, Graphic Design, Animation/Filmmaking, Podcasting, Grant Writing and Events/Fundraising. Red Canary partners with local foundations to help early career artists, photographers, filmmakers, journalists and writers push their boundaries by supporting the creation of their work. We offer one Annual Creative Fellowship for this upcoming new talent to get hands-on-experience with – and access to – our Collective members through their work. The intent of this program is to recognize & support New Creative Talent across the United States who demonstrate exceptional creative talent and a passion for using their gifts to drive environmental and social justice.
The Red Canary Fellowship Program is a paid opportunity to sharpen your skills with a street-level view of the world today from creative people on the front lines and at other hot spots, from social justice movements to the climate crisis. We feature writers, photographers and filmmakers connecting us to the currents of social and environmental justice action. Winners receive Fellowship benefits, including:
